Abstract

The study examined the impact of remittances on financial empowerment of households in North Central Nigeria. Primary data was employed with the distribution of questionnaire to emigrant household from North Central and community leaders in North Central Nigeria. Descriptive statistics and ordered logit regression were employed to analyses the data gathered for the study. The study revealed that Cash Remittances (CRR) (? =218; p< 0.5) has a positive relationship with financial empowerment of households while households size (? = 0.26; p < 0.1) have a negative relationship with financial empowerment of households in North Central Nigeria. The study concluded that remittances impact significantly on wellbeing of households in North Central Nigeria. The study recommended among others, that families who get these remittances should utilize the fund to take care of the health, education and financial issues of individuals in the family.
